The Central Courtyard Apartment is a quirky Georgian home in the centre of Bath with on-street parking - on "one of the quietest, most beautiful backstreets in the world" (Giles Coren, The Times). We're a stone’s throw from the Royal Crescent, the centre of town and many of the destinations featured in BRIDGERTON, yet also only a short distance to numerous countryside walks. Perfect for a romantic getaway, a family holiday or for small groups.
This is a spacious courtyard apartment in a beautiful Georgian property. Being on the lower ground floor, it is a little unusual in its layout and while we love the fact it is so quirky - please do take the time to check you would be comfortable staying here before you book!
OUTDOORS
There is a small paved courtyard garden area with bench - enough space for alfresco drinks. This area is very private and not overlooked.
LIVING SPACE
As well as a comfortable living area with a 4-seater sofa and 2 armchairs, there is a dining table that seats 4 people and can be extended to seat 6.
KITCHEN
The kitchen has a fridge freezer, microwave, electric oven and gas hob as well as a toaster and kettle. It also has basic supplies such as plates, cups, glasses and cutlery, as well as pots and pans.
BEDROOMS
At the front of the apartment there is one double bedroom which overlooks the courtyard. This bedroom is also next to the bathroom which has a small bath and shower.
At the rear of the apartment are two interconnecting vaulted rooms with a kingsize bed in one room and two singles in the other. The vaulted rooms do not have a door between them so we have listed them as one room - although we've always used them as two rooms. They would suit a family or guests who know each other well. To be even clearer about the layout, we’ve enclosed a floorplan within the gallery of pictures of the apartment.
* PLEASE NOTE: There is only one bathroom with a shower and smaller than average bath. This may be an issue for larger groups.
These rooms are built under the road and would have originally been the coal cellars for the entire house in the 1700s. We’ve lived here and slept in these rooms for nearly twenty years – however for some it might seem a bit strange to sleep in a room with curved walls so we feel we should point this out before you book!
During your stay you will have the entire place to yourselves, however we live in central Bath and so are on hand should you need us. We - or Clair's Mum, Lyn - are usually fairly swift at responding to messages. We have a key safe system so you can arrive at a time that suits you.
Clair's Mum Lyn often helps out with the management of the apartment so you may see her respond to messages instead of, or as well as, us sometimes. She knows Bath and the apartment almost as well we do!
We like to think that this is a child friendly apartment and we have children's books and toys here, as well as a high chair and a change mat. We also have a cot, however you will need to supply your own bedding for these (we provide a bottom sheet but not blankets, baby duvets or growbags for example). You should note that there are quite a few steps to get into the property (around 18) which can be an initial challenge for some people - as well as prams / pushchairs (although we did manage it ourselves with a buggy for four years!).
THE AREA
Rivers' Street is a historical gem. Jane Austen's aunt lived a few doors down from us and William Herschel discovered Uranus whilst living on this street. It is also perfectly located for discovering Bath's attractions, green spaces and many fantastic restaurants.
Royal Victoria Park (and its botanical garden) is just a few paces away. We are also within easy reach of the Cotswold Way. A slightly longer walk takes you to the river, canal and the Bath Skyline - all perfect for walking, running and cycling.
We have some lovely pubs just paces from our front door - and some of the best restaurants in Bath are a few hundred metres away, as well as being a short walking distance from all the many attractions Bath has to offer (Roman Baths, etc). Our apartment is just 5 minutes from the centre of Bath and its main shopping streets, so most places are within easy reach by foot.
GETTING HERE
We are also a 15-20 minute walk from the train and bus station (or a £7 taxi fare). In line with all holiday accommodation in Bath, we are not able to offer on-street parking permits - however there is a public car park nearby. You can find driving directions and instructions / tips on where to park here. We would add though that Bath is easy to navigate on foot and very difficult by car - so driving in the city is best avoided!
